"When all else fails to calm you, take a Bath."

Nothing can be more rejuvenating than a nice hot shower after a crazy and tiring day. To make the most of your "me" time in the bathroom, why not add some glamour and serenity to the place?

If you’re looking to do so, glass designs may be a great option. With many homeowners looking for sleek, stylish, and spacious bathrooms, glass designs are an excellent way to achieve that.

Stylise Your Bathroom with these Glass Design Ideas

A common apprehension about using glass, (which is more often transparent) in the bath area, which is supposed to be a private zone, is self-contradictory. However, thanks to the advancement in technology, novel types of glass designs are available today that deftly address safety and privacy. These glasses are also moisture and heat resistant. Various glass types like tempered glass, frosted glass, laminated glass, toughened glass, etc., can be used to accessorise the bathrooms.

Let’s see below some amazing ways where one can accessorise the bathroom with glass designs.

#1. Lacquered Glass Cabinet and Shelves

One can add colourful highlights to the bath space using lacquered glass cabinets and shelves. Lacquered glass is basically a type of glass wherein one surface is painted with a premium type of high-quality hue. Lacquered glass cabinets and shelves in the bathroom create aesthetic beauty and charm to even a small bathroom.

#2. Glass Shower Enclosures, Windows and Partitions

One can enhance the look of the bathroom sans compromising on privacy by opting for shower enclosures, windows, and partitions in frosted glass. Frosted glass is basically a transparent sheet of glass that is converted into opaque by way of sandblasting or acid etching. Using frosted glass for windows will ensure that enough natural light flows inside while at the same time obscuring visibility from outside. The visibility from outside is often translucent and hazy. Hence frosted glass is popularly used for shower screens and sliding doors as well. One main advantage of frosted glass is that it is non-corrosive by nature and hence renders the surface mould free.

Tempered glass shower cubicles and windows are another good option because tempered glass is toughened and impact-resistant glass and the bath area being slippery, it is a good option to use tempered glass in shower cubicles, partitions, etc. Another interesting factor is that tempered glass can be bent to any shape, and hence they are great for constructing a curved shower cubicle. There are various designs to choose from, like simple reeded lines or ripples to more complex geometric designs. Further, there are various gradings of glass available based on the level of privacy needed.

#3. Glass/Mirror Barn Door

Glass or Mirror Barn doors can be a great choice for compact bathrooms. Installing a mirror on a barn door saves much space and is great for a minimalistic bathroom design. Also, a mirror sliding door gives a visual feel of a larger space. This is practically useful if one has a narrow bathroom.

When it comes to a glass barn door, the main advantage is that they do not block natural light and hence you do not run the risk of having a dark bathroom. Furthermore, glass barn doors are a sleek option when it comes to ensuite bathrooms, sans cutting down too much on the volume.

#4. Glass Block Walls

Glass block walls add style and elegance to any bathroom. Glass block walls are glass bricks that can be used to build an architectural structure like a partition wall or screen wall. They are great for dividing a room without blocking the light. Walk-in-showers with glass blocks are quite popular and enhance the look of any bathroom.

#5. Stained Glass Windows

Stained glass windows are a great way to add a splash of colour to an otherwise dull bathroom space. Made by combining various sections of glass together, stained glass designs vary from simple designs to decorative and coloured insets.

#6. Toiletries in Frosted Glass

Frosted glass is a good option to store bathroom accessories like soaps and toothbrushes. For instance, a frosted glass soap dispenser is a good choice as one can see how much soap is left behind. Frosted glass accessories need not be bland and void of any colour. There are many options of coloured frosted glass with interesting designs like squares, stripes, etc.

#7. Glass Sinks

Glass sinks are a beautiful and functional alternative to the traditional porcelain sinks. Though there is a misconception about the strength and durability of glass, these sinks can actually withstand similar wear and tear and bear the same strength as that of porcelain sinks.

One aspect where caution should be exercised is thermal shock. A thermal shock occurs when there is a quick fluctuation in temperature and thermal shocks can cause the glass sinks to break. For instance, do not pour anything hot beyond 120 degrees onto the glass sink, as the rapid change in temperature will make the sink get cracked. If a glass sink gets chipped or cracked, the entire sink must be replaced. However, such a thermal shock in homes is rare as the hot water coming from the tap will not go beyond 110 degrees.

Glass has a non-porous surface that does not allow any bacteria to penetrate. Hence it is easy to disinfect, something that will be much value n 2021. Using glass for your bathroom washbowl is the best way to keep your bathroom bacteria-free. Glass sinks will retain their original sheen for years if maintained properly.

How about a Glass Wall Separating the Bedroom from the Bathroom?

How about using glass walls to enclose the bathroom? Creating a glass-enclosed bathroom is quite a trend these days. No doubt glass walls remove some amount of privacy, but they also illuminate the entire room when space is a premium. They can make any room look more spacious and they also allow a better influx of natural light. One can run an opaque line through the centre of the glass to get some privacy or run a curtain on the inside of the glass wall. Privacy can also be maintained by running blinds or by using frosted glass.
