Counter the chaos around you right now by turning your home into a serene space away from the daily hustle-bustle of city life. And it’s not difficult either. Simply modifying your home decor can give it a calm, tranquil feel.

How to Turn Your Home into a Tranquil Oasis?

Manipulate your mood with these simple home decor ideas, some of which will seem obvious, some you may not have thought of yet. It doesn’t have to be designed by yourself though, we’re just an email/phone call away should you need it.

Colour

Choosing a soothing colour palette to dominate any space is the quickest way to transform a space. White, cream, pale tones are all safe bets, and they also help invite natural light into the room. But if your aim is to energise a space, then the obvious swathes of brighter colours are the way to go. Play with accents, pops of colour, and textures to add interesting layers to the room.

Lighting

The more natural light you allow into your home, the brighter (and lighter) everything will feel. Keep the curtains open through the day to keep your spirits up. Hanging up a cool mirror on the wall is a great way to amplify the light filtering in. In the evening, switch to a soft light—if you’ve got a dimmer, nothing like it. But if that’s outside your reach right now, turn to the warmest light you already have (this means no tubelights!).

View

Lucked out with a view? Whether it’s trees, a glimpse of the sea, a cute balcony, or even just some breathing space between you and the next block of concrete, make looking out the focus of your room. Connecting with nature even in the smallest ways has a surprisingly calming effect on the mind. The less you have inside your home, competing with your view, the better.

Definition/Functionality

Defining spaces within your house according to functionality reduces spontaneous anxiety. Working from home? Have a dedicated space for your desk, chair, stationery, computer. Dress it up with a couple of cute elements—a tiny indoor plant, small photo frames—to make sure it’s not just conducive to a productive day but also so you enjoy returning to it every day. Young kids in the house? Create a cute corner just for them—a small rug, floor cushions, basket of toys. This ensures that even if it gets messed up, it’s restricted to that corner.

Organisation

They say the clutter you surround yourself with is reflective of your mental state at the time. But it also works the other way around. The more knick-knacks you can get out of the way, the cleaner you keep your space, the less stressed out you’ll be subconsciously. Make sure everything has its own place, so you don’t have constant reminders/underlying pressure to “clean up”.

Breathing Room

Amplify empty space where possible. What we’re aiming for here is to get as far away from feeling cramped or suffocated as we possibly can. This means fewer room dividers (or none at all), spread out furniture, and as much of an uninterrupted flow as you can realistically manage.

Accessorise

There are some pretty straightforward and obvious hacks when it comes to brightening up a room after everything else on this list has been checked off. Plants are the first thing we now all know to include in our indoor spaces, but if you just place a cheerful bunch of flowers or citrus fruit within view, you’re good. Flower prints on soft furnishings (curtains, cushions) is another no-brainer to liven up a space and fill it with a happy vibe.
